Apprenticeship programme

Aerospace

Why not consider a career in aerospace?

Doing is one of the best ways of learning. Develop your skills and acquire valuable experience in a fast-paced, challenging and results-driven global organisation. Combining study with on-the-job learning, our Apprenticeships offer an exciting alternative to university and provide the foundation for a career in aeronautical engineering. If you are hardworking, passionate and ambitious, we want to hear from you.

Our three-year Apprenticeship Programme leads to an NVQ Level 3 certification in Aeronautical Engineering and provides practical training with pay. First-year, off-the-job training takes place at our dedicated training facility and develops trainees’ practical skills. In second and third years, trainees rotate around various operational areas to develop skills and knowledge required to successfully integrate into the company on completion of their apprenticeship. Day-release to a local college of further education, where trainees will study for a BTec Level 3 Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering, plays a key role in the programme.

While working towards their NVQ qualifications, apprentices also get the opportunity to participate in additional training which includes Health and Safety, environmental awareness and essential skill programmes such as IT-related courses.

To join the programme, trainees must have at least four GCSE passes: Mathematics at minimum grade B and three other subjects at minimum grade C including English Language, a Science or Technology based subject, plus any other subject.  Equivalents are accepted.

It’s important to us that prospective apprentices/employees have a good grasp of who we are and what we do. Interviews can be daunting. Since this might be your first, we want to give you an idea of what to expect. We hope you can convince us that you’re career-minded and have an interest in Engineering and the passion to succeed. Be prepared to demonstrate good background knowledge of Bombardier Belfast and our apprenticeship programme.

Some key skills/behavious we look for include teamwork, motivation, accuracy, prompt time-keeping, competence and good verbal communication. You should also have an awareness of Health and Safety.
