In Bombardier we have many talented people working for us in different areas and we would like you to meet them. Today meet James who is a Senior Vehicle Engineer working for us in Derby, UK.
What is your role in Bombardier?
I am a Senior Vehicle Engineer. I am responsible for the integration of all the subsystems including Brakes, Train Control or Batteries to form the complete train.
Tell us about the project that you are currently working on.
I am based in Derby and currently I am working on the Crossrail project. Crossrail is a very challenging and exciting opportunity as we are aiming to increase the rail capacity in London by 10%, which will have a great impact on the daily commute of passengers from Reading to London. On this project we are integrating different types of trains (such as metro trains) with the varied infrastructure including different signalling systems. Our Derby team is very international and includes colleagues from many different countries including China, India and Canada. Additionally, by working in such a global company you get great opportunity to collaborate with colleagues all around the world to deliver the best solutions to our customers.
What would you say to a person considering a career in railway?
I have been working in the railway industry since 1999 as I have always seen many benefits of working here. First of all, railway is the most environmentally friendly and sustainable means of transport. Secondly, with the growing passengers numbers, the industry in the UK is developing at a very fast pace and offers great long term career opportunities for engineers, who want to work on complex projects and make a positive contribution.
